Ranking the Godzilla Suits

Hey everyone, it's me again. I know I've ranked the films, but...

How about Godzilla's suits?

So that's what I'm doing today.

Keep in mind that these are only movie/TV show-based, so I'm leaving out MARVEL's Godzilla comic design.

So, let's begin.

#26: PepperGoji (Godzilla Dr. Pepper Commercials) 1985

Okay. This one's a Godzilla suit used by Dr. Pepper to market their products. It exists in two 30-second commercials, a kaiju known as "Newzilla" appearing in the second one. It's pretty basic and silly, and it looks really weird. But what do you expect, it was made for TV commercials.

NEXT!

#25: GyakushuGoji (Godzilla Raids Again) 1955

OH MY GOD. It's the deformed Muppet. Seriously, what the actual hell? He looks like he's melting inside and out. So yeah. It's bad. Need I say more? I think not.

#24: MusukoGoji (Son of Godzilla) 1967

Okay, just... what...? I'm not sure what they were going for here. I get that they wanted him to look more friendly since he had a son, but WHAT IN THE ACTUAL HELL IS THAT THING? Anyway, it's kind of freaky and not really in a good way. It's also a little too goofy for my taste. So yeah.

CONTINUING ON!

#23: Hanna Barbera's Godzilla (The Godzilla Power Hour) 1978-1979

Alright, this one's cute. I have very fond memories of watching this as a kid (Not live, of course, as these were aired in the late 70s). This was an animated series, if you couldn't tell. So this design's okay for an animated series, but it's a bit... lacking. It's also weird to see Godzilla as being green. But yeah. It's kind of cute.

#22: ShodaiJira/FinalJira (Godzilla 1998, Godzilla: Final Wars, Godzilla: The Series) 1998-2004

So this one's technically Zilla, but I have to include it because it was just "Godzilla" in the '98 film. It's not a bad design, it's just not, you know Godzilla. That's the only reason it's so low. And yes, the FinalJira design is horrible, but it's supposed to look that way. They wanted to make fun of the overuse of CGI in America, I guess. Anyways, let's move on.

#21: BarkleyGoji (Godzilla vs. Charles Barkley Commercial) 1992

So we have yet another commercial. This was an ad for Nike in which Charles Barkley challenged Godzilla to a game of basketball. It's basically a sub-par rendition of one of the Heisei Godzilla designs.

Also, Godzilla does this in the commercial:

Yup.

#20: DaisensoGoji (Invasion of Astro-Monster, Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster) 1965-1966

Ugh. I like to refer to this one as the Cookie Monster Godzilla. Or Cookie Monster's meth-addicted cousin. One of the two. This one not only looks horrible, but is just a really silly character in Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster. So yeah. I'm glad this one was only in two films.

#19: SnickerGoji (Godzilla Snickers Commercials) 2014

OH BOY, ANOTHER COMMERCIAL ONE. Don't worry, it's the last one on this list. So I'm not too sure what this one is. It's not good, it's not horrible and the commercial itself is... interesting. So yeah.

"Godzilla is awesome... unless he's hungry."

Apparently.

#18: ThirdStreetGoji (Always: Sunset on Third Street 2) 2007

So this one's actually kind of cool. Why is it so low? It appears in this film for like five seconds in a two- minute-long opening. The film itself isn't bad, but Godzilla is just a cameo. Anyways, I like this one pretty well.

#17: MegaroGoji (Godzilla vs. Megalon, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, Terror of Mechagodzilla, Zone Fighter) 1973-1975

This is certainly one of my most familiar Godzilla suits. I used to love watching the 3 movies it was featured in, and I always liked Zone Fighter (A Japanese TV series similar to Ultraman). This Godzilla was always a hero figure and... a... martial artist?! Anyway, it's silly but likeable all the same.

#16: LegendaryGoji (Godzilla 2014) 2014

So this one's pretty cool, it looks more realistic but it's still Godzilla. My main problem with this design is its legs. They seem too long for his body. He may also be a little... too big. Like that shot of his foot next to the M.U.T.O. Anyway, it's okay.

#15: FinalGoji (Godzilla: Final Wars) 2004

So I like this suit for the most part. My biggest problem with it is that it looks too, I don't know, HUMAN. Godzilla looks like a dude with a dinosaur head. The way it moves and fights is also very human and not very animal-like. I get that some Showa films were like this (Which the move was an homage to), but still. It irks me a little.

#14: ShodaiGojirazaurusu (Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah) 1991

So yes. This is another kaiju by technical standards. But Godzilla did evolve from this dinosaur after being nuked according to the Heisei movies. So it's kinda still Godzilla. It's pretty cool, it's an extra-dinosaurish Godzilla.

#13: RadoGoji (Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II) 1993

Ah yes. Here come the Heisei Godzillas. Most of them look pretty similar, but almost every movie had a slightly different suit. This one is my least favorite of 'em, I suppose (unless you count Godzillasaurus), and it's really mostly because the dorsal plates/spikes look too... big to me. They seem weirdly proportioned for Godzilla's body size. It's still a pretty nice suit, though.

#12: SoshingekiGoji (Destroy all Monsters, Godzilla's Revenge, Godzilla vs. Hedorah, Godzilla vs. Gigan) 1968-1972

This suit has been in more movies than any other, and it's the one most people think of besides the original for the Showa series. I like it, though the tail is a little flail-ish and this Godzilla likes to move its fingers... like, a lot.

#11: ShinGoji (Godzilla: Resurgence) 2016-???

Hey, look! A Godzilla suit for a movie that isn't even out yet! Seriously though. I can't wait for this to release and then come out in the U.S. (hopefully) the next year. So this one's pretty... terrifying. Its arms and strange teeth are my only grievances with this one. Godzilla looks very intimidating.

#10: MogeGoji (Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla, Godzilla vs. Destoroyah) 1994-1995

We're getting into some really crisp ones now. This one is basically an improved RadoGoji, but the dorsal plates are still a little too big. That's my only problem, really.

#9: MireGoji/GiraGoji (Godzilla 2000, Godzilla vs. Megaguirus) 1999-2000

I really like this one's dorsal plates and wild head design. My only oddity with this one is that its GiraGoji slight modification has purple spikes, which is a bit strange and unnecessary. This suit's just really good. That's all.

#8: KiryuGoji (Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla, Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S.) 2002-2003

Wow. This one definitely improves on the wild look. I also like the little crest Godzilla has on his neck. It really adds to the tallness and, well, size that is Godzilla.

#7: MosuGoji (Mothra vs. Godzilla, Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster) 1964

So this one's pretty good and animal-like. It also has eyebrows for some reason. That's all.

It's good, m'kay?

#6: BioGoji/GhidoGoji (Godzilla vs. Biollante, Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah) 1989-1991

This is a very good, intimidating model of a Heisei Godzilla. It's almost perfect- except for the huge dorsal fins again. They are smaller this time, though! Still a little big, but meh. I like it.

#5: KingGoji (Godzilla vs. King Kong) 1962

This one is pretty intimidating, it looks cool, it's muscular and it really likes clapping. There isn't really anything wrong with this one in my eyes.

#4: ShodaiGoji (Gojira) 1954

Another one with eyebrows. Or, rather, the first one with eyebrows. So this is the very first one, the original. And it's great. It's bulky, intimidating, scary and pretty impressive for its time. It almost feels like it's not a man in a suit.

#3: BatoGoji (Godzilla vs. Mothra: Battle for Earth) 1992

This is almost my ideal Heisei Godzilla. I just really like smoothness of it and its overall feel. There's not much more to say.

#2: 84Goji (The Return of Godzilla) 1984

Other than this one's sometimes derpy eyes, it's awesome. Intimidating yet slim, scary and it was the first time combining a suit and an animatronic (it was for the head; it was placed on top of the actor's head and controlled the mouth and eyes). This one is just really great.

#1: SokogekiGoji (Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack) 2001

OH MY GOD. WHY WAS THIS NOT IN MORE THAN ONE MOVIE?! This suit is amazing. It's scary, it's intimidating, it's badass and it makes Godzilla have a very dinosaur-esque look. It's truly menacing.

So that's my list! Hope you enjoyed, more movie, suit and game rankings along with normal blog posts are coming soon, and so are new videos and maps a bit later on.

Have a nice day,
