Ranking the Godzilla Monsters (TOP 10)
Oh boy, here we go. The following are my absolute favorite kaiju in the Godzilla series. Who will get #1...? Let's find out. ;)
#10: Gigan (Film Appearances: Godzilla vs. Gigan, Godzilla vs. Megalon, Godzilla: Final Wars) Abilities: Hooked appendages, flight, buzzsaw chest, eye laser, razor discs
AKA: The Mean Green Chicken from Outer Space
Is this guy absolutely ridiculous? Yes. I mean come on, he's a cyborg space chicken! But, in all honesty, he's also awesome. He's intelligent, violent, brutal and very interesting. His Millenium design (The one in the picture above) was also pretty damn awesome to be honest with you.
#9: SpaceGodzilla (Film Appearances: Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla) Abilities: Corona beam, regeneration, telekinesis, flight, power crystals, can conduct energy, shield, energy bolts, electrical aura
AKA: That One with the Really Lame Name
As I've said above, this guy's name sucks. Other than that, he's a really awesome, powerful kaiju who can do a ton of stuff and looks pretty cool too. He's basically a telekinetic, energy-wielding, flying Godzilla from space. Yep. Anything else you need to know? Oh yeah, he's really cool.
#8: Hedorah (Film Appearances: Godzilla vs. Hedorah, Godzilla: Final Wars) Abilities: Can shoot its own body, laser beam, flight, sulfuric acid mist, size/form manipulation, can divide into multiple Hedorahs, toxic blood
AKA: Tokusatsu Trash
Okay, the idea behind this one may sound absurd- he's literally made of smog- but Hedorah proved to be a strong, tough, powerful foe for Godzilla and it really took a lot to take him down (Although he was barely in Final Wars and was really weak then, oh well). He's kind of scary in a way too, seeing as how he can fly around and reduce everyone into piles of bones and clothing with his sulfuric acid mist. A weird kaiju for a weird Godzilla film meant a win for sure.
#7: Mechagodzilla (Film Appearances: Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, Terror of Mechagodzilla) Abilities: Optical laser, 360 degree turning head, heat ray, brain beam, explosive missiles, forcefield, energy beam, flight
AKA: Kill Bill
The other incarnations are cool in their own way, but you can never beat this guy. I mean come on, he's one of the most classic kaiju in the entire series. He's badass, cheesy and pretty powerful. It also takes the combined forces of King Caesar and Godzilla to take him down, and they're both made out to be tough kaiju. And you can never beat that reveal scene he has. You just can't. #6: Anguirus (Film Appearances: Godzilla Raids Again, Destroy all Monsters, Godzilla vs. Gigan, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, Godzilla: Final Wars) Abilities: Spiny carapace, burrowing, can curl into ball and propel himself
AKA: Shivering Spines
While this kaiju is more combat-oriented and less about abilities and weapons, he has proved time and time again to be an awesome Godzilla opponent/ally. He has a ton of bravery and determination, and he's pretty tough too. He's also the first monster Godzilla ever fought, so, you know, there's that. He's also one of the rare cases where I'm really not a huge fan of his Millenium design and definitely prefer the Showa one to it.
#5: Rodan (Film Appearances: Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster, Invasion of Astro-Monster, Destroy all Monsters, Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II, Godzilla: Final Wars) Abilities: Flight at incredible speed, shockwaves, powerful winds, heat beam
AKA: "Oh! That's a big birdy!"
Yet again we have a kaiju that's awesome by... well, just being really cool. Rodan's not too complex or anything; he's just a fast, powerful pteranodon with anger issues who gets a really cheesy opening scene in Godzilla: Final Wars where they try to show Americans in the movie. Oh boy, was that a mistake. Rodan was not only amazing in the Godzilla films, but he also had a pretty great kaiju film of his own, simply titled Rodan.
#4: Biollante (Film Appearances: Godzilla vs. Biollante) Abilities: Tendrils, mouthed vines, corrosive sap, can heal and reform, flight by spores, radioactive sap, regeneration, immortality
AKA: Feed Me, Seymour!
What a unique kaiju for a unique Godzilla movie. Biollante is by far the most unique, creative and innovative kaiju Toho has come up with for Godzilla yet (In my opinion). She's beautiful in her rose form, bearing peace and power, but then an absolutely terrifying nightmare later, actually managing to defeat Godzilla. Not only is she essentially an immortal plant version of Godzilla, but she's stronger than him, too. Damn.
#3: Destoroyah (Film Appearances: Godzilla vs. Destoroyah) Abilities: Can split into multiple different forms, micro-oxygen beam, micro-oxygen injector, laser horn, chest beam
AKA: Satan
Wow, what a terrifying force. I mean come on, he's literally called "The Destroyer of All Things" by some! He's almost too much for Godzilla to handle even in his elevated meltdown form, and he kills his son. Like really, that's pretty dark. He's pretty much as close as you'll get to a demon in Godzilla movies.
#2: King Ghidorah (Film Appearances: Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster, Invasion of Astro Monster, Destroy all Monsters, Godzilla vs. Gigan, Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack) Abilities: Flight, gravity beams, hurricane winds, constricting necks, regeneration, barrier, electric bolts, electric bite, energy shield, magnetic powers
AKA: Spaaaaaace!
Ah yes, the classic foe of Godzilla. The giant space dragon is one of the first monsters that comes to mind when most people think of Godzilla. He's a powerful, iconic force that automatically escalates the tension in any film he appears in. I mean come on, he has three heads, is a dragon and can fly. What more could you want from a kaiju? Although, there's only one more left that could possibly beat him, and I bet you know who it is (I mean, it's right under here, but...).
#1: Mothra (Film Appearances: Mothra vs. Godzilla, Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster, Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster, Destroy all Monsters, Godzilla vs. Mothra: Battle for Earth, Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack, Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S., Godzilla: Final Wars) Abilities: Silk spray, poisonous yellow powder, psychic, flight, energy beam, lightning arcs, mirror scales, poison darts, can reflect attacks
AKA: More Than Just an Insect
You can't beat Mothra. You just can't. She may only be a moth, but she's an extremely powerful divine kaiju. She debuted from her own film in 1961, Mothra, and the continued to evolve in Godzilla and eventually introduce Mothra Leo in the Rebirth of Mothra trilogy. She looks cool, has tons of abilities and is the most peaceful and good kaiju in the Godzilla series. And trust me, she's a true challenge for Godzilla (Well, except for in GMK, where she does nothing), beating him or critically damaging him each time she's up against him.
