Ranking the Gamera Monsters

Oh, you're back for more rankings? How about we cover the kaiju from Gamera this time? There's exactly 10, so I can keep it in one list instead of 4. :P I will, of course, be excluding Gamera just like with the Godzilla list.

Let's begin, shall we?

#10: Zigra (Film Appearances: Gamera vs. Zigra, Gamera: Super Monster) Abilities: Blades, yellow beam, temporary flight

AKA: Like a Goblin Shark, but Lamer

Alright, this guy is really ridiculous. I mean look at him! I'm not quite sure who thought it would be a good idea to have a goblin shark combined with an alien spaceship as a kaiju, but they can probably agree that, in retrospective, it wasn't such a good idea. A horrible Gamera movie with a horrible villain makes for a really bad time.

#9: Viras (Film Appearances: Gamera vs. Viras, Gamera: Super Monster) Abilities: Constriction, telepathy

AKA: Tentacled Spacebird

Here we have yet another ridiculous, lame kaiju. This guy is made by a bunch of other "Virasians" merging together, similarly to Hedorah or Destoroyah from the Godzilla films. He isn't even in the movie much, and when he is, it's not very interesting to watch. Sorry, Viras.

#8: Guiron (Film Appearances: Gamera vs. Guiron, Gamera: Super Monster) Abilities: Massive blade, shurikens

AKA: Knife to Meet You

Here we have a still ridiculous but slightly more entertaining kaiju. He's a little more appealing in terms of his appearance, and there is that great scene where he chops the limbs off of the Space Gyaos (Which looks totally fake and cheesy, it's amazing). Overall, he's just okay. That's really about it.

#7: Jiger (Film Appearances: Gamera vs Jiger, Gamera: Super Monster) Abilities: Impaling quills, flight, heat ray, suction, stinger, ovipositor that lays parasitic eggs

AKA: Everybody do the Dinosaur

Jiger's actually kind of interesting. She has a lot of unique abilities and posed a unique threat to Gamera in her film. While she's still not a revolutionary kaiju or anything, she's still a little less cheesy and ridiculous than the ones in the previous spots. Her design was okay too, I'm not a huge fan but I also don't have any problems with it.

#6: Toto (Film Appearances: Gamera the Brave) Abilities: Flight, fire breath, fireball

AKA: Gamera Jr.

Okay, I lied a bit. Toto isn't Gamera by name, but he does serve his role in the film Gamera the Brave. However, I still consider him a different monster. He's basically a less strong, smaller, cuter version of Gamera. He's not bad or anything, but he's not all that impressive, either (At least not compared to the next 5).

#5: Barugon (Film Appearances: Gamera vs. Barugon, Gamera: Super Monster) Abilities: Extendable tongue, icy mist, super-heated rainbow

AKA: DOUBLE RAINBOW

Definitely one of the quirkier kaiju in the series, Barugon was the first opponent that Gamera went up against. This guy's design is pretty interesting, and he's weird in all the right ways. I mean come on, he can shoot rainbows out of his back! Anyway, this guy's pretty cool.

#4: Zedus (Film Appearances: Gamera the Brave) Abilities: Extendable/spear tongue, acid, can leap incredible distances

AKA: Doglizard

This one may not be quite as quirky or weird by design as some of the others, but he's a really cool enemy nonetheless. He proves to be a brutal and angry opponent, at one point even cornering and eating people, and he manages to be pretty intimidating up against Toto.

#3: Legion (Film Appearances: Gamera 2: Advent of Legion) Abilities: Can recognize electromagnetic waves, blue beam, rapid production of Symbiotic Legion, burrowing, shield, laser tendrils

AKA: The Insectoids

Okay, this definitely kicks up the creativity. These were some really cool enemies that came in all shapes and sizes, and the Mother Legion suit (The one in the picture above) is really complex and interesting. These aliens had all sorts of cool abilities, and a really unique overall goal and way of doing things compared to other Gamera kaiju.

#2: Iris (Film Appearances: Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris) Abilities: Hard carapace, telepathy, can absorb nutrients from other organisms, sonic beams, flight, retractable blades, can analyze DNA, manipulation of chromosomes, Sonic Scalpel beam, fake plasma shots

AKA: Anime Villain V2

Wow. What an amazing design and interesting concept for a kaiju. Iris looks awesome, is pretty terrifying and not only has cool abilities, but has a well-written backstory/reasoning. She's sort of the villain, but not entirely. She really makes you think which side is the right one to choose in her battle against Gamera. But, of course, you couldn't even have Iris if you didn't have the...

#1: Gyaos (Film Appearances: Gamera vs. Gyaos, Gamera vs. Guiron, Gamera: Super Monster, Gamera: Guardian of the Universe, Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris, Gamera the Brave) Abilities: Flight, supersonic beam, can emit gas to protect itself from sunlight, regeneration

AKA: You know, it's a... bird? Fox? Bat? Ah, who cares.

Who else would be in the #1 spot but the classic, reoccurring Gyaos? Gyaos is definitely the most likable Gamera enemy, boasting a simple yet creative design and appearing in way more films than any of the others. Gyaos, no matter what form he may take, will always be the #1 Gamera villain (I guess Iris might kind of count as #1 too with that in mind :P).

Welp, there's another one down. This one was a lot shorter and easier to make than the Godzilla one. My next few rankings may be a bit... different. You'll see.

Thanks for reading. :)
