Mapmaking Update

Hey everyone.

I wanted to make this post to answer a few big questions I've gotten about my mapmaking progress and... well, really my mapmaking in general.

It occurred to me that it's been over a year since any of you have seen an actual map from me, and that people don't exactly know what the maps lost in that gap were like. You know, my methods, my techniques in making them; my values. And so I wanted to shed some light on that by giving some info about Derp Quest II and comparing my new ideas to my old ones.

I consider most of my old maps to either be bad or just "meh". My old horror maps do not scare me. Sure, I made them so I know when jumpscares are going to happen and stuff, but there are just so many glaring problems that ruin the experience for me (Although it should be admitted that I do not scare easily). I personally now find Deck the Halls with RAGE to be a bit creative, but still overall uninteresting and lacking, even if it was made over the course of a few days as a gift/challenge.

And, while I agree with people that Derp Quest is my most entertaining and fun map, there is so much more that could've been done with it. The areas were fairly empty in the earlier stages and the voice-acting was half-assed (I'm actually an actor, so I can say that with confidence). Some of the rooms were even just flat-out lazy, such as the "Wood Gauntlet" in Horrible Haunt, which had zero effort put into it and was just there because I wanted to make the stage longer.

Don't get me wrong, I had a blast making my old maps; I've just changed as a person, I'm more interested in different things. So, what will my future maps be like?

As of right now, Derp Quest II has a huge focus on not just parkour, but the environments and the detail within them. I've written and rewritten stage layouts many, many times and every day I think of some new thing to add. It is my top priority to make a fun, non-linear (Save for the first area since it serves as an introduction to the map) and richly detailed parkour map from start to finish.

As for my next horror maps... I'll stay quiet for now. I think it's better that way, but expect something 1000x scarier than anything I've made before. ;)

That's really all I wanted to say. I just want you all to know that I've changed a lot (No DJ Khaled reference here), it just hasn't been seen yet. Who knows, maybe there will be something out this year.

One last thing: Remember Between? That horror map I was making? Eh... maybe I'll finish it at some point, but I got really into working on Derp Quest II again. Sorry.

Thanks for reading and I hope you all have a great day.
